KATHMANDU, May 23:
Apang
Nawang Sherpa, 33, a disabled hailing from
Taptin village of Solukhumbu district, has
scaled Mt Everest, the highest peak of the
world. The success achieved by Sherpa, who
has only one leg, has proved that a person
of patience and courage though disabled, can
undertake courageous endeavours.
Accompanied
by Everest friendship beyond borders expedition
team, he set foot atop the Everest summit
at 8.15 A.M. on May 16, it has been learnt.
He had set out from base camp for the Everest
summit with five other five team members on
May 12. Nawang wants share his joy with ordinary
Nepalese people.
Tom
Mcmillan, an American Mountaineer who also
gained the summit is the main colleague and
witness of Nawang’s feat. He told Nepal Television
that Nawang did not encounter any specific
difficulty in reaching the summit.
Gombi
Sherpa, a mountaineer from Dolakha had helped
Nawang. With this success, Gombi has the distinction
of scaling Everest for the tenth time. Father
of three sons, Nawang hopes to share his experience
with other disabled people.
